Probation differs from parole in that it is part of a criminal’s original sentence. A criminal may be sentenced to Probation rather than jail-time, it can be in additional to time served in prison. Like Parole, an individual on Probation must abide by certain conditions, which may be quite stringent. Violation of Parole or Probation may result in additional time in prison.
