A moving violation carries points. It is assessed by the Division of Motor Vehicles and it is in a schedule.
A non-moving violation is something like an equipment violation. Either your car wasn’t inspected or you weren’t wearing your seatbelt. Those are non-moving violations that had nothing to do with your driving, it had something else to do with the motor vehicle or what you, in fact, were doing.
But a moving violation consists of anything from speeding tickets, running a red light, careless driving, all the way up to driving while intoxicated. The non-moving violations are, you know, they carry consequences, but not as severe as the moving violations.
