THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MOVING AND NON MOVING VIOLATIONS

Traffic Violation: The Difference Between Moving and Non Moving Violations

I’m going to explain the difference between moving violations and non-moving violations. A moving violation involves operation of a motor vehicle. For instance exceeding the posted speed limit or running a stop sign. A non-moving violation is let’s say an equipment violation. Your inspection sticker is expired or you’re not wearing your seatbelt. Those are examples of nonmoving violations versus the moving violations that carry repercussions both at Motor Vehicles and with your insurance company, but they involve -- involve operation in violation of a law. That’s a moving violation.
